Why did they let Ralph Lauren design the Olympic uniforms again?

I’m a huge Olympics junkie and I can’t wait for the Olympics to get started, with some events (including the new team figure skating) tomorrow.  But I am less excited to see the US athletes in their team uniforms at the Opening Ceremony on Friday.

The last time Ralph Lauren did the team uniforms for the summer 2012 event in London, the athletes came out looking like flight attendants…plus the uniforms were apparently made in China.  So, who thought it was a good idea to let him have another go?

I don’t know, but the results this round are just as bad, if not worse.  Here’s the Gawker article on this topic.

It’s like the 4th of July threw up on an ugly Christmas sweater.  “There’s no giant horse” is about the best thing I can say about it.  Gawker commenter Mrs. Beeton posted this image for comparison:

Yup, looks about right.

There’s plenty of other goodies in the Gawker comments as well, so enjoy.
