Fan Art Friday: Li Meiling loves fall

Fall Meiling

Here’s another from my high school sketchbook.  Meiling Li is my favorite character from my favorite anime (and the inspiration for my pen name).  I drew her a lot, in various outfits and hairstyles.

Here I gave her braids instead of her trademark odango.  She’s wearing “civilian” clothes but the top takes some influence from the Chinese style of her battle costume.

There’s a lot that’s cringe-worthy about this sketch (the feet eeeeeek), but I love her hair, her expression, and the leaves and wind swirls.

Fan Art Friday: Cardcaptor Sakura

When I started getting into anime about 15 years ago, I started keeping a sketchbook so I could teach myself to draw anime-style.  I have very minimal talent as an artist, but I thought it would be fun to share some of these sketches here.

This is actually one of my best, featuring the title character of Cardcaptor Sakura in action.  I think she’s about to use her wand to seal a Clow Card; you can see I started tracing the outline of a magic circle around her feet.

Sakura was always one of my favorite characters to draw, not just because I loved that anime, but because I had such fun making up battle costumes for her.  This is one of my own original designs.
