Autumn is Ohio’s best season: the colors, the weather, the events! Even a car ride is a joy, but I really love visiting state parks at this time. Here are some views from Mohican State Park near the northeast part of the state.
I love identifying leaves in the fall (the tree in the featured image is a sassafras, which have some of the most beautiful colors). Here are some posts to get you started with some basic leaf IDs:

Another fun feature of Ohio is that you never know whether it might rain or even snow on Halloween. Plan your costumes accordingly! 🤣

When we moved into our current house, I was thrilled to discover that there were a multitude of bulbs planted in the front garden. Every spring I wait eagerly for the crocuses to pop up and signal the change of season.

I have given up growing tulips because it is too much work to keep the deer away, but one year I had great fun tracking their growth. Nothing brings hope so much as new buds and leaves in the spring.

Summer in my mind is tied to Florida, the state where I grew up. We actually try to avoid returning for a visit in the summer months because the weather can be objectively miserable. But there’s nothing like sunny day in Florida to really feel like summer!
We took a trip there almost exactly two years ago.
We spent some time burning our feet on the beach sand as well as taking a stroll through a state park.
The local wildlife enjoys the sun, too. And what is better in summer than a cold drink? I had missed Dr. Publix! 😂
If you are at the beach for a summer vacation, what is more essential than a book? Happy summer reading!

While exploring the walls of the medieval city of San Gimignano, we discovered this fascinating door, a lovely surprise. While it appeared to give a beautiful view of the Tuscan countryside, I suspect it may actually have been a portal to another world. It just had that feeling. 🙂
What do you think is on the other side?

One of my great joys of touring Europe was visiting churches and cathedrals, not just for the beautiful architecture but also the spiritual experience. My favorite was La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain.
It’s funny right now to think of being in such a public space with so many people, but I don’t remember it feeling crowded at all. I remember it feeling so peaceful with all the light and colors and forms of nature. As a Catholic, I was very moved; this church helped me feel the presence of God.
I think of morning as being a quiet time, though I am not a morning person at all. Taking an early morning walk down Grafton Street in Dublin was such a contrast to visiting the day before during shopping hours.
