Fan Art Friday: Oola

Welcome back to our Star Wars coloring book club, where every now and then Kiri from Star Wars Anonymous and I color the same image to compare and contrast.  Here’s our first effort for 2022!

I started out doing only cool colors to match Oola’s green skin, but then I got bored with that and kept adding more colors and now it looks like a rainbow hahaha. I could not get Oola’s skin color quite right either which bugged me.

Oola and Bob Fortuna in ROTJ were the first time Twi’leks were introduced as characters. I’m so glad the species has gotten more depth since then, especially in The Clone Wars and beyond with the Syndulla family. In Legends, I always liked the explanation of Twi’lek naming conventions from the X-Wing series:

An example of a true Twi’lek name was Nawar’aven. This name would be split into two parts when used outside of the local culture, becoming Nawara Ven

Wookiepedia

My light side Jedi Sage character from SWTOR was also a Twi’lek. She was actually the first character I created for that game, so she has a special place in my heart though she wasn’t the character I played the most.

Once again, a very happy new year to you all! I can’t promise how many of these SW coloring pages we will do this year, (probably not many) but I hope you will enjoy our efforts as much as we enjoy doing them.

Hello Mei-Mei and Happy New Year. To be fair it was rather dark in Jabba’s Palace so getting the right skin tone match for Oola would be difficult!. Twi’leks definitely have grown in popularity and if I recall correctly, Sebulba the Dug pod-racer was attended by a pair of twin Twi’lek sisters – you can see them in the pits hangar helping him prepare for the big Boonta Eve Race.
Thanks for sharing this post and as always I look forward to whatever posts you deliver!

Thanks! Yes, I remember those Twi’leks! Also Aayla Secura in the prequels, too.

I love these Fan Art Fridays! Glad y’all are still doing them, even if every now and then when you’ve got time. Enjoy the little things together, right? 🙂

I had so much trouble with the skin too! I like yours, but did you find this choice to be kinda boring? I feel like there wasn’t much room for doing something crazy. I blame my daughter for that hahaha. Anyway, at least all your colors stayed in the lines haha!
