Welcome back to our Star Wars coloring book club, where Kiri from Star Wars Anonymous and I color the same image every month to compare and contrast. It’s been a while, but we’re finally back!
My feelings about this image changed dramatically as I went through the process of coloring it, which kind of mirrors my general emotional state right now during our current health crisis and social distancing.
When I saw this mandala, I immediately had a color scheme in mind and was excited to get started. I did the first, central bit and really loved it. Then as I kept going, I started questioning my choices and about halfway through I really hated it. Then when I opened it back up to do the very last bits, I was able to see it more as a whole and now I like it okay. I wouldn’t say it’s one of the best I’ve done, but I’m happy with how it turned out.
Also, I am unclear how this image is related to Star Wars? I asked my husband and he was also unable to give a satisfactory answer. Some of the pieces look industrial, like ships or vehicles or something, but I can’t peg exactly what they are from. Any guesses??

Moisture Vaporators would be my guess – the pipework looks very similar! (Viewed from above you can make out the four sided down pipes) And I think this has turned out nicely, I like the lighter, brighter colour choice, very cheerful, much better than the gloom you mentioned ….but of course we’re gonna do our best to beat that! I hadn’t thought of moisture vaporators! I don’t tend to use pink a lot, but I’m glad I did this one brighter.

Hi again, I think it’s my eye for detail that I’ve developed! I see things totally differently since I started designing. I’ll see an object/image and see sabers usually but that mandala just reminded me of the downpipes of a Vaporator…and the conical parts on the hemispheres look like one of the droids that was inside the Jawa Sandcrawler. I look forward to the next instalment of Fan Art Friday!
