Relaxing by Coloring Turtles

In the summer, my work does this thing on Thursdays where you can go during your lunch break to color or play checkers or do sudoku. You guys won’t be surprised that I always go to color. They have coloring books full of sea life, but I gravitate toward the turtles.

Turtles were my sorority mascot, so it goes without saying that I have a lot of turtle stuff, and also that my sisters purchased so many turtle things for my kid (who can easily say “turtle” now).

They have markers at work, which is a nice change for me since I use colored pencils at home for my Star Wars coloring book. My favorite technique for these pictures is to pick a set of three colors to alternate in one section, then pick a slightly different set of three for the next section. I did that here for the turtle flippers and the water.

Sometimes I don’t have time to get through a whole picture on my break. I’ve tried doing this turtle several times before finally taking one copy home to finish!

The finished product

I also picked up coloring sheet when we were on vacation in Florida last year: more turtles!

I’ve been dealing with a lot of stress and anxiety recently, so coloring is really helpful for my mental health. I always feel better after coloring! I did this one while watching Empire of Dreams, a cool Star Wars documentary from 2004; you can check it out on Netflix.

Hi Mei-Mei, more great colouring fun! And what a great initiative to get workers out of their shells (< see what I did there? πŸ˜€ ) and relaxed! I love the rotation of colours, especially as they work so well together. I actually dabbled in some more colouring recently, I was on Disney's Star Wars site looking for sound effects for my animations (they used to have the "Soundboard" feature where you could mix sound effects and record a small audio clip) but ended up searching StarWarsKids. On that site they have colouring pages with "pick and click" function to fill in sections of the picture. Well I found a new friend in the collection of pictures and "painted" him in my colours…

    Thanks for sharing!

Hi Mei-Mei, BB-4T is a bit of a cheat as it uses just the click and paint colours from the actual website. But you could fill each section with white and download that image to use in MS Paint or art package to “paint” it your way. Oh and BB-4T says thank you, he loves you and your blog too!

You should get the book Honu, Honu Where Are You? for your son. πŸ™‚ My sister got it for me in Hawaii and it was one of my daughter’s favorites.

So my Jeep Wrangler came with a beautiful Honu tire cover on the back. I got lots of compliments but it has been since switched out with BB-8…and not as many compliments…hmmmmm….

Oh that book looks so cute! Definitely need to get it 😁
Haha poor BB-8 can’t compete with the Honu. I bet it looks cool though!
