Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #51: Unique

Barcelona is home to a lot of stunning architecture, much of which is of a style not really found outside of the region.

One great example of its unique character is the Block of Discord on Passeig de Gràcia in the Eixample district.  This block has facades by four of the great Moderisme architects…yet each is perfectly unique.

Casa Amatller by Puig i Cadafalch

It’s really hard to pick a favorite, though Casa Batlló is probably the most ostentatious and also the most famous.

Great choice, Mei Mei! I, too, too Gaudi’s architecture.
Thank you for joining in. 🙂

Wow, I love how the shapes of the last building (Casa Batlló) look almost organic. Not squared, but circled and flowing. Such beautiful pictures!

Yes, Gaudi loved to incorporate natural themes! Everything he did was organic. I think that’s part of why it looks so “different” to us.

Somehow I missed this one Mei-Mei. I find Gaudi a bit too over-the-top for me but know he has many admirers. Who’s use of color and form is pretty amazing tho. Excellent idea for unique!

“Over the top” is a very apt description! I like his style, but I don’t think I would want to live in that house…
