From County Kerry.
Cahergal is a stone fort that possibly dates from the seventh century. It has been reconstructed as much as possible so it’s a great place to walk around and get a glimpse of history. The tall outer wall has layers of stone steps built into it, so you can climb up and get quite a view (including a glimpse of the nearby Ballycarbery Castle, as seen in this photo.) The interior smaller circle I believe was a living area.
oooh great choice for this challenge!

Hello Mei-Mei, for a moment I thought you had returned to Ach-too (Skellig Micheal)! Those stones sure look similar to the ones used in Luke Skywalker’s hideaway.

They do! This kind of layered stone building, with no mortar, was common in ancient Ireland. That center circle could even have been a beehive hut like Luke’s 🙂

I’m enjoying these posts! I’m from Northern Ireland: nice seeing some beautiful places from the rest of Ireland!

Northern Ireland is one of the few parts of the island we didn’t get to see. Hopefully I’ll be back again, and able to enjoy your country as well. I’m sure it’s just as photogenic!

Lots of Game of Thrones and Titanic-related tourist activity lately! The Giants Causeway is the star attraction as far as I’m concerned if you are back again. Northern Ireland and Scotland have a lot in common and a lot of shared heritage/history.

Oh, I’d definitely love to see some GoT sites! And the Giants Causeway. Hopefully someday 🙂
