NaNoWriMo 2016 begins

NaNoWriMo 2016 Participant Banner

This is the fourth year I’ve done National Novel Writing Month, and while I would be thrilled to “win” by writing 50,000 words, I am equally thrilled to be starting a new project.

roman-floraThanks to your input, and my preparation, I’m going to be starting a draft of a novel that I have been calling “The Gladiator and the Goddess.”  Brief synopsis:

The daughter of a merchant is possessed by the spirit of a local healer goddess.  A gladiator with a secret past helps her on her quest to free the spirit.  The setting is Roman-inspired with fantasy elements.

I won’t be around quite so much this month, but I have a bunch of posts already scheduled so there will still be plenty to read here.

I will also be posting some excerpts from my previous NaNoWriMo project, a fairy tale re-telling based on such stories as Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella, particularly inspired by a Mi’kmaq version known as Oochigeaskw, or the Rough Face Girl.  My working title is “Ash and Team,” after the two main characters.  This is not a story I’m ever planning to publish, so I figured it would be fun to share a bit here.  Constructive criticism is also encouraged!

Best of luck to everyone else participating this month!  My sn on the Nano site is “Meimei21” if you want to add me as a writing buddy.

Haha “guilty” is kind of my default state. But I’ve already written more in 3 days than I usually do in a week 🙂

Woot Woot way to go. Remember it’s supposed to be fun, and a challenge, so don’t get too worked up if you miss a day
