Weekly Photo Challenge: Between

In the Mangroves

From Genovesa.

The red-footed booby (Sula sula) lives between the land and air.  Here he rests for awhile in beach-side mangroves.

This is one of several kinds of boobies that inhabit the Galápagos, although they are not endemic to the islands.  The name “booby,” while hilarious for English-speaking tourists, may come from the Spanish term “bobo,” meaning fool.  They are seabirds and feed by diving into the ocean.
