I already had a nice blog post all typed up for today, and here I am writing another one. Only true nerdy passion would inspire me to do such a thing, and my mind has been truly blown: Disney is buying Lucasfilm for $4 billion.
Disney is BUYING LUCASFILM.
This includes not only the Star Wars films/franchise but also Industrial Light and Magic, Skywalker Sound, LucasArts (the video game division), and the Indiana Jones franchise. Disney states that they intend to release Star Wars Episode 7 in 2015, with more films to come on a regular schedule.
I don’t know whether to cheer or hide under my bed.
On one hand, I love Disney. They’ve done great things with Pixar and Marvel, and their current collaborations with Star Wars have been excellent (Star Tours ride, etc. at Hollywood Studios theme park). This could mean great things! KOTOR 3! Thrawn triology movie adaptation! Original theatrical release of original trilogy on Blu-ray!
After I thought about this for a bit, I started getting scared. How could they do the Thrawn trilogy (Heir to the Empire books) as a live-action movie without recasting Han, Luke, and Leia? And what if they do the X-wing books instead, and they cast a horrible actor as Corran Horn? What if they just skip all those and go to the next generation of characters for the movies (Disney might want to focus on kids)–what if they invent new, different kids for the Solos, or Luke?? What if they totally disregard the EU books’ timeline and canon?!?!
My brain may explode with all this speculation.
But seriously, who should play Corran Horn????
